North Elba is located in Essex County which is the only county in New York that is completely in the Adirondack Park. The Town of North Elba is surrounded by Saint Armand and Wilmington to the north, Keene to the east, Newcomb to the south, and Franklin County to the west. The Village of Lake Placid is located in North Elba.
